Using an anti-bias education framework to inform curricular choices helps teachers support young learners in respecting and embracing differences and contributing to the world in peaceful ways. Across early childhood classrooms at the Y, students engage with high-quality storybooks anchored in the teacher’s interactive read aloud practices. Then in small groups, children create their stories by talking, drawing and writing about their ideas. We believe that every child has a story that should be honored and that our teaching should be relevant to our students’ identities and experiences. In a world filled with stereotyping, prejudice, and discrimination, we seek a world in which ALL children can blossom.
