Introduction

"DANGER!", "WATCH-OUT!", "BE CAREFUL!," These are the warning words that signal an unsafe situation may occur. Talking to your child about possible dangers in their environment gives them the knowledge needed to avoid these situations.

At Home

If you have 3 minutes

  • Talk to your child about what it means to be safe at home. Talk about how your child can be safe in different parts of the home. For example - In the kitchen point out items that are hot. On the stairs, we walk and hold the railing.
  • Before an activity briefly remind your child of safe behavior, or how to use a tool or item correctly and safely.

On the Go

If you have 3 minutes   

  • "Catch" your child being safe and tell them you notice.
  • Have your child wear a helmet when riding a bike or scooter.
  • Talk to your child about being safe in the car- like sitting in a car seat and why we wear seat belts.
